World Hypnotism Day Jan ‘06 in Ireland was dedicated to Dr. Jack Gibson and Ormond McGill.

“The world, in general, has lost two great humanitarians and the hypnotherapy profession, in specific, has lost two great teachers and pioneers.”

On World Hypnotism Day, Thursday January 4th 2007, Martin Kiely Hypnosis Centre, St. Luke’s Cross, Cork, Ireland raised € 600.00 (about $800.00) for Sightsavers International

In celebrating World Hypnotism Day hypnotists around the world held FREE and low cost hypnosis events to educate and inform the public about the benefits of hypnosis, hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis. In Ireland hypnotherapist Martin Kiely held a number of events including a group Stop Smoking programme. Participants who registered for this specific WHD event benefited in two ways: 1) they only paid 50% of the normal cost for a session, and 2) they Stopped Smoking. All the fees received for the WHD Stop Smoking programme was donated to the nominated charity Sightsavers International. Martin Kiely has helped change the lives of those who participated in the Stop Smoking programme by becoming non-smokers and by donating the funds to Sightsavers International will help to save sight and change lives in the developing world. What a wonderful way to start the New Year!

Sightsavers is the country’s leading charity combating blindness in the developing world. Sightsavers’ vision is of a world where no-one is needlessly blind. There are 37 million blind people in the world today and 161 million more people are severely visually impaired.  These are huge numbers - what they mean in individual terms is that one person is becoming blind every 5 seconds, and a child is becoming blind every minute.  Yet we need not be reading about these statistics, as a staggering 75% of global blindness can be prevented or cured. Common eye diseases which have simple and cheap cures are the main causes of this blindness. A simple surgery lasting just 20 minutes can restore sight to a man, woman or child blinded by cataract. Young people risk losing their sight from a painful and distressing infection called trachoma.  People of all ages living in areas vulnerable to river blindness risk losing their sight each day. Sightsavers has been working for over 50 years to deliver cost effective eye services and has restored sight to more than 5.6 million people and treated over 100 million for potentially blinding conditions.

Sightsavers work with partner organizations in poor and the least-served communities to help establish and support permanent activities that prevent and cure blindness, restore sight and provide help for people who will never see. Donation hotline 1850 50 20 20 Website: www.sightsavers.ie
