Successful New Years Resolutions
How To Make Your New Years Resolutions Work!
1) Introduce yourself and what you'll be speaking about.
2) What is hypnosis?
The word hypnosis is derived from the Greek God of sleep - Hypnos. Yet hypnosis is not the kind of sleep like when you go to bed at night. Hypnosis is a state where you are very relaxed, physically and mentally, while remaining aware of everything going on around you.
This a natural state of mind you go into every day: Daydreaming during class, playing video games, studying for a test or exam, even driving down the highway and reaching your exit without fully remembering the drive, are all examples of being in a light state of hypnosis.
3) Brief History of Hypnosis
A) Egyptian Sleep Temples (or other examples)
B) Have you ever heard the phrase "that person mesmerizes me?" That comes from a man named Anton Mesmer who practiced hypnosis in the 1700's.
C) Doctors and dentists, even some hospitals are using hypnosis for pain control, easy child birthing and to speed up the healing process. < Click Here > for further information.
Note: Giving a few examples of how hypnosis has been used for so long will let the people know this isn't just a new age phenomena. Depending on the amount of time you have will determine how long you want to spend talking about the history of hypnosis.
4) How Can Hypnosis Help with New Years Resolutions?
You can use hypnosis to create healthy, positive changes in your life, improve sport skills, feel good about yourself and achieve your goals and dreams!
The Conscious & Subconscious Mind:
Conscious Mind:
This is what you're listening to me from right now.
Aspects of the Conscious Mind:
Critical Factor, Temporary Memory, Analytical Mind, Rational, Will Power
Subconscious Mind:
This is the storehouse of memory of everything that's ever happened to you, from the time you were an infant to the present.
Aspects of the Subconscious Mind:
Permanent Memory, Habits-good and bad, Emotions, Suggestible
From the time you were an infant to about seven years of age, you were developing your conscious mind. This means everything people said to you went right into your subconscious mind and became true for you. This includes both positive and negative statements and situations. This is why "authority figures" are able to say something to you and you tend to believe them.
Example: You see a "doctor" on TV. He tells you flu season is coming. When it hits, go out and buy the particular product he's endorsing. Two ideas were just planted into your subconscious mind.
1) You're going to get sick when flu season hits.
2) You'll go buy that product.
Why? Your subconscious mind is unable to discern fantasy from reality. The image of the doctor and what he was saying, who is an authority figure, went into your subconscious mind. Even though consciously you know he was an actor, the idea still by-passed your conscious mind.
Ask: Who has ever said positive affirmations? Did they work?
Chances are most people will say "no".
Why? If you have many years of negative self-talk: I'm not good enough, I can't succeed, I'll never have enough money, I'm a failure etc., then you look in the mirror on New Years Day and tell yourself "I'm a wonderful person", your subconscious mind will spit that right back out!
The years of low self esteem and negative self-talk in your subconscious mind is like a clothes basket filled with dirty laundry. The one new positive idea gets swallowed up by the years of negativity. One of the aspects of the subconscious mind is that it is lazy! It has to be inspired to want to accept the new ideas for positive change.
The only way to do that is through hypnosis!
Give examples for smoking and losing weight:
You try to quit smoking or go on a diet from your conscious mind and you're using will power. Will power was never meant to create permanent change. Trying to keep your new years resolutions going after a few days is like trying to hold hundred pound weights - it's too hard and before you know it, you're back to the old habit.
When you go into hypnosis and create new patterns of behaviour, new ways of thinking and feeling that become accepted, your subconscious will ensure that this becomes your reality.
5) Group Suggestibility Tests
Note: When you are speaking to a group, giving them the opportunity to experience some simple suggestibility exercises will increase their interest while helping to release any doubt or fears which they may still have.
You may have a few personal favorites, these are just examples for what you can do.
How would you like to lend me the use of your imagination?
A) Arm Rising/Falling
B) Hand Clasp
8) Demonstration of Hypnosis
Note: You can either do a group demonstration, allowing everyone to have the experience, or use one person and let everyone else watch.
Induction: Elman induction works best with demonstrations because it is fast.
A) Induction
B) Mental Relaxation
C) Deepening
D) Convincers so THEY know they are having an experience: Eye Lock, Rigid Arm, Heavy Arms or Legs etc.
E) Positive Suggestions: By now you should have an idea on what your audience is seeking change. You can include simple, enthusiastic ideas for everyone!
Example: And if your desire is to be a non-smoker, imagine right now, what it would be like to be that non-smoker! Take nice, deep, cleansing breathes of air into your lungs and realize from this point on, you have no desire to smoke because you are a non-smoker.
(Have them use the time to imagine their life as a successful non-smoker while you talk with other people. Now you can give similar positive suggestions to inspire people to keep to their healthy regime to reach their target weight goal, to feel good about themselves.
Whatever your new years resolutions may be, you are now so inspired and enthused to make that your new reality etc....
You can be as creative as you want and really have some getting them inspired and enthused while they are in hypnosis.
F) Exit your demonstration
9) Questions
10) Wrap-up
Idea: Have some sign-up sheets on hand and dates set for special hypnosis workshops you'll be offering on weight loss, smoking cessation, increasing self-confidence etc. Chances are they will be ready to sign-up for a longer workshop!
